Her name is Yinka Fashola, the boss behind the successful
on-going LASRRA registration. For over twenty years, she was in Britain
contributing her own quota to the British economy.
However, the woman, who is very intelligent, earned the
recognition of her junior brother, Governor Fashola and he put her there
because she is capable.
Since the inception of LASRRA, Ms Yinka Fashola has been
wonderfully performing the registration exercise. She is always up and doing
and making sure that everything goes well. Every time you meet her, she is
always radiating joy and happiness. She is also very confident.
With her impeccable English, she is no doubt a woman of
substance. Only recently, an idea came to her head that artistes, actors and
actresses, comedians deserve to be given a special day for registration, known
at the back of her mind that many people would be eager to meet them and this
would ultimately increase the success of the programme.
Because people would swarm around them, what did she do? She
enveloped more than one hundred artistes into the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium,
Alausa strictly for registration purposes with other important personalities
and state officials.
It was a big and interesting outing as artistes, actors,
actresses and comedians interacted and hugged themselves while throwing banters
here and there.
There is n doubt that this is another plus for Ms Yinka
Fashola and we are very sure that she has not disappointed her brother who put
her there.
The governor said this was to enable the state government
know the actual number of Lagos residents so that it could provide adequate
service, employment, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure for its
residents.
Speaking recently at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Lagos
State secretariat Alausa, Ikeja, venue of the Special Registration Exercise
organised by LASRRA for this group, the governor, who was represented by his
Hon. Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Adebiyi Mabadeje, said that
the essence of registration goes beyond data gathering. He said that it would
enable the representatives of government to plan appropriately for the needs of
Lagos residents.
Fashola also explained that the state government was
engaging with the people in the entertainment world because of the successes
they have recorded in their chosen careers, their role model status and the
leadership position they occupy in the society. He told them that government
chose to talk to them as a special group because it hopes and believes that
they would help spread the message by leading the registration campaign.
The Governor said that although the state had made giant
strides, especially in the area of infrastructural development and security,
the laudable exercise would help government to determine exactly how many
residents are in Lagos State. He also assured the practitioners that data, which
would be collected by LASRAA from them would be kept confidential.
BRF concluded his address by calling on everybody, who must
have lived in Lagos for at least six months to ensure that he or she register
with LASRRA, regardless of ethnicity or nationality. He announced that the
exercise is absolutely free.
In her own speech, the general manager of LASRRA, Ms Yinka
Fashola, said that her agency is currently collecting demographic data on all
residents of the state to enable the government to adequately and efficiently
plan for the people of the state in order to allocate resources to meet their
needs.
Ms Fashola, however explained that actors, actresses,
musicians, producers, editors, back stage crew, stage hands, cameramen and
others, play vital roles in the development of the state. She said that the
presence of this set of people usually elicit positive response from people
explaining that cities that have large numbers of Aritistes do experience
economic growth.
The general manger also told them that the state cannot grow
and develop only in infrastructure but it must encompass the creativity of its
residents and urged them to register.
According to her, the registration is free and cuts across
religion, nationality, age, gender and ethnic origin. She said that knowing
their demographic would enable the government to plan as it recognizes the
economic needs that would be solved from their taxation in the state. And this,
Ms Fashola said would have impact on the development plan of Lagos. She ended her
speech by appealing to all of them to get involved in the development of Lagos
state by registering with LASRRA.
Some of the celebrities arrived at the venue
early enough and had their registration exercise even before the event proper.
They have also commended the Lagos state government for this laudable
initiative. Those at the event included , the legend, King Sunny Ade; Adebayo
Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, Jide Kosoko; Kate Henshaw; Bimbo
Akintola; Idowu Philips (Mama Rainbow); Segun Arinze, Mr. Yinka Ogundaisi,
Alli Baba, Papa Ajasco, amongst other popular musicians, actors and actresses
